The threat does not end when the predator leaves
Fear can continue in brain and behaviour.
An experiment in wild animals found PTSD-like changes in behaviour, the amygdala, and the hippocampus persisting for at least seven days after predator cues.
This does not prove trauma of the entire Earth. It shows that the nonlethal effects of severe threat can be biologically real and extended in time.
